26.06.2015 - European Schools Chess Championship 2015

UPDATE Konya - Turkey Amardip reached 5/7 which gave him a chance of a medal if he could win his last two games. In Round 8 he was paired with white against an 1895 rated Moldovan player. Amardip played aggressively with the Moller attack variation of the Italian Game. He could have gained an edge but unfortunately chose an inferior recapture on move 18 and his opponent converted the material advantage. His last round was tough with Black against a 1950 local player and he finished the tournament on 5/9 a good score in this field.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Crowborough Junior Amardip is representing England at this prestigious event. Amardip is just 11 years old but due to the European rules working on calendar years not school years he is playing in the Under 13s.You can follow his progress at the ESCC2015 website.Amardip has got off to a good start winning his first two games in this nine round tou...

04.05.2015 - Mega Final Results 2015

Crowborough Chess Club was represented by 22 players at Hassocks on Saturday 2nd May.An exciting time with successes and some disappointments.Success at the Mega-Final is not just measured by trophies and qualification to the Giga-Final but also by achieving personal targets. So for instance Theo achieving his target of 2/6 in only his second ever tournament is a triumph as is Leo winning his section with a perfect 6/6 and Amardip winning the tough U'11s section. So well done to everyone who played on Saturday. The other winners and qualifiers ranged from Elena Currah in the Under 7 Girls to David Liu in the U15 boys. The statistics were 22 players, 4 Supremo or Suprema age group winners and 11 other players scoring 4/6 or better and qualifying for the Giga-Final in Reading. In addition we had some very near misses with heart breakingly close scores of 3½ but if it was easy then it wouldn't be so enjoyable when you succeed.Liam after a close miss last year was on top of the world w...
