Upcoming Tournaments in 2015

A number of chess events are coming up over the next few months.

Mega-Final

For the juniors an important date is Saturday 2nd May which is the UK Chess Challenge Mega-Final at Hassocks entry from club or school qualifiers.

I have been asked by some of our qualifiers whether they can play in the Kent Megafinal on the 17th May in Tonbridge if they cannot make the 2nd May and the answer is yes but you can only enter one or the other not both.

However we encourage participation at the Sussex event where we have a club designated classroom for parents and players to relax in and the chance to have your games analysed on the demo board between rounds.

Summer Lightning

The club's Summer Lightning tournament will be held on Friday 22nd May at 7:45pm with the usual 10 second buzzer format.

Hastings & St Leonards

A new venture the 1st Hastings and St Leonards Weekend Chess Tournament takes place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May at Hastings Chess Club. Jeremy Hudson writes

The ambiance of our renowned chess club, using chess sets for the most part with over a hundred years of history (still in good condition!), the relative ease of access to the club and reasonable cost of entry may be something that local chess players will be able to take advantage of. We do hope that players from all over Sussex, and elsewhere, will be able to have an enjoyable weekend of chess at our club on a fairly regular basis.

Salinello

If Hastings does not appeal then you could do worse than joining myself and Gill on Italy's Adriatic coast and play in the 1st Salinello International Chess Tournament from the 25th May.

Weald Chess Congress

Then moving into July is the Weald Chess Congress taking place on the 11th and 12th July with graded sections suitable for all levels from Grandmaster to Under 110 grade.

After that its off to the British Chess Championships at Warwick University so no excuses for not playing some chess as the weather gets warmer.
