01.10.2015 - Club Championships 2014-16
At the AGM we agreed to continue and finish the current
round of games from last year but to also invite entries for this year’s
competition.
If you haven’t already done so do let me know whether you
wish to enter the new tournament for this year and whether for rapidplay or
longplay or both.
The major change is to the time control for Longplay which
has been reduced to 60 minutes + 10 second increments to allow games that start
maybe a bit late on Friday to be completed in one evening.
The Rapidplay time control remains unchanged at 25 minutes +
5 second increment.
We may adjust the number of games and groups depending on entries
but we will still have 4 sections;
Longplay – Major
Longplay – Minor
Rapidplay – Major
Rapidplay – Minor
Regarding finishing the tournaments from last year;
Longplay will continue so let me know if you do not wish to or
cannot finish your games

24.08.2015 - Tradewise Gibraltar Junior International
Amardip has spent the last 5 days playing in Gibraltar and has come 2nd= in this prestigious tournament. He just missed out on the £1,000 first prize but still picked up £600 for his fine score of 5/6.I think his best game was in round 5 which you can play through here.In his final game he needed a draw to take first place but still played, to his credit, aggressively and while I was screaming at the live board "get your king safe, play Kb8" Amardip was finding inventive moves. Even near the end I think it was only time that prevented him from finding the defence 42... c5! it seems a shame that the organisers do not allow the players at least a 5 hour playing session with an extra 30 minutes after 40 moves. They have after all travelled all the way to Gibraltar to play chess. As it was Amardip after 40 moves only had 5 minutes left + 10 second increments. Not enough to decide which rook and pawn endgame was drawn and then enough time to defend it.You can play through the fi...
