Tradewise Gibraltar Junior International

Amardip has spent the last 5 days playing in Gibraltar and has come 2nd= in this prestigious tournament. He just missed out on the £1,000 first prize but still picked up £600 for his fine score of 5/6.

I think his best game was in round 5 which you can play through here.

In his final game he needed a draw to take first place but still played, to his credit, aggressively and while I was screaming at the live board "get your king safe, play Kb8" Amardip was finding inventive moves.

Even near the end I think it was only time that prevented him from finding the defence 42... c5! it seems a shame that the organisers do not allow the players at least a 5 hour playing session with an extra 30 minutes after 40 moves. They have after all travelled all the way to Gibraltar to play chess. As it was Amardip after 40 moves only had 5 minutes left + 10 second increments. Not enough to decide which rook and pawn endgame was drawn and then enough time to defend it.

You can play through the final game here or visit the Gibraltar website.

Well done Amardip and we look forward to you playing for the 1st team next year.
