04.10.2017 - To all Crowborough Junior Chess Club Members

As from this Friday there is, in addition to the usual junior chess club running from 6:30-7:30pm the opportunity for the older/stronger players to stay on after 7:30pm. Chris Dunn will be organising competitive ECF Graded games at the time control of 25 minutes + 5 second increments. The games will last therefore a maximum of one hour but may finish sooner. This is an opportunity to gain experience of longer play against other members including adult players (you may even get a chance to beat me) and to obtain or extend your English Chess Federation Rating. PS parents can also play in these games if they dare ! So at 7:30pm we will close the connecting partition between meeting rooms 2 & 3 and Chris Dunn will announce the games to be played that evening. It is imperative that parents email Chris by Thursday if they want to play in these later games that will take place between 7:30pm – 9:00pm. 01.09.2017 - Club re-opens Friday 8th September

Hope you all had a nice summer break. After a trip along the Caledonian Canal I’m certainly refreshed and ready for a new chess season. Club re-opens for adults & juniors next Friday 8th September 2017 at the Community Centre. 05.08.2017 - British Chess Championships 2017

Update The Championships have finished and as could have been predicted with the shortened 9 day tournament there was a four way tie for first between the top 3 seeds; David Howell, Gawain Jones, Luke McShane and International Master Craig Hanley. Gawain Jones came out on top in the Rapidplay play-offs.Amardip as hoped did finish well scoring 2½ out of his last 3 games and finishes on an encouraging 3½/9.You can view and download all the longplay games here.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The British Championships are being played in Landudno and Crowborough Chess Club's sole representive in the Championship this year is Amardip Ahluwalia.Amardip qualified for the Championship as West of England under 18 Champion but is finding the step up tough and currently stands on 2/7. The English Chess Federation produce ratings for individual players. The higher the rating the better and the letter indicates the number of games played. eg an A rating is the highest for 30 or more games played in the last year.They also publish Top 100 lists for different age groups. 22.07.2017 - Summer 2017 Junior Championship

The final round of the Crowborough Junior Chess Championship was an exciting end of season tribute to all our players. Henry our defending champion needed to win his final game and hope that long term leader Lucy slipped up and lost her final game. Both players had tough games against Reece and Theo who as expected did not make it easy for the leading pair. Reece despite some friendly moans to Gill about his massive upfloat played superbly against Henry, liquidating a good middlegame into a winning endgame and when Henry’s clock fell Reece was about to capture Henry’s only passed pawn and leave himeself with an easy Bishop and 3 pawns vs 4 pawns ending.
