17.03.2018 - Crowborugh 1 suffers narrow defeat
In their final match of the 2017-18 season last Friday 16th March 2018 Crowborough were defeated by a strong team travelling across the county from Horsham.Despite this loss Crowborough have retained their Division 2 status and with a number of new and returning players the prospects look good for next season when we may be challenging for promotion back to the premier Mid Sussex League.

CHESS CLUB CLOSED
The community centre is closed due to adverse weather conditions ie SNOW.
Should all be back to normal next week.

22.02.2018 - West of England Junior Chess Championship
A number of our players traveled to Swindon last weekend to play in the prestigious Wiltshire and West of England Junior Chess Championships.I am only aware of the prize winners as listed on the Wiltshire Website but not the crosstables.Thomas Martin is shown picking up his third place prize in the Under 12 Challengers.As soon as I have more details of individual results I will update this news item.

Our last match of 2017 ended in disappointment despite the best efforts of our captain Chris Dunn. Chris completely outplayed his opponent despite giving away 56 graiding points.Unfortunately I played a dreadful game against Morgan and got checkmated in 28 moves. Both games can be seen from this link.Gary lost a piece on board 4 while Amardip drew on top board. Friday 1st Deceember 2017 Tonight's club meeting is the last before Xmas due to the annual Pantomime so make sure you come along for some fun chess in the junior club 6:30-7:30pm as well the prizegiving for the Autumn Junior Tournament.Senior club meets as usual between 7:30-10:00pm for the next round of the Club Championship Rapid Play all welcome.Bring some party food and drinks along and wish everyone a good Xmas break we return on Friday 12th January 2018 when we have a home 1st Team match against Hastings and for the juniors it will be the start of the 2018 UK Chess Challenge.Team NewsThis week saw our junior team in action again this time playing away at Horsham and winning 3-1. Autumn Lightning17 players including 7 juniors competed in the annual lightning tournament over 5 rounds.There was a three way tie for 1st place between ; Trevor Norton, Jonathan Tuck and Michael Redman each scoring 4 points with Trevor winning on tie break.The strength of the competition can be seen with 4th= shared between 1st team regulars Robert Elliston and Jon Lawrance on 3½ points while the top junior prize went to Thomas Martin with 3 points from 5 games.Junior ClubThree club nights are left before Christmas and we will be making this Friday 17th November the last round of the Autumn Term competition. Current leading scores are;
