Congratulations to Joshua Higgs and Amardip Ahluwalia who played for the successful England U14 and U12 teams respectively in the Glorney Cup. During the Spring term we ran a UK Chess Challenge qualifier at the club with the successful club members playing in the Sussex or Kent Mega-Finals.Any player scoring 4 or more points in the Mega-Final was entitled to take part in the South of England Giga Final that was played over the weekend of 12th-13th July 2014.The winner of each age group section in the Giga-Final gained the title of Ultimo or Ultima and qualified for the Tera-Final where cash prizes of up to £2,000 are on offer.Congratulations to all our players below who competed against the best in the South of England; all scores are from 6 games played and remember these places are best in South of England.

returned to 4 teams in the MSCL.

This twice rearranged match took place on our last club night of the season.
Michael on board 1 was unlucky dropping a piece while in a slightly better position.
Matthew on 2 is adjudicated with most of the pieces still on the board but is a pawn up. Its black to move ;
Kartik on 3 had a titanic battle just making the time control at move 42 and 49 by seconds in both cases. He kept his nerve in a bishop and knight ending with his opponent blinking first.
Luke won a nice a king and pawn endgame on board 4 which kept the crowd mesmerised.

Spring 2014 Lightning TournamentWith our older juniors away around the country playing in tournaments it gave the more senior members of the club the chance to fight for the title of 10 second lightning chess club champion.Jonathan Tuck got off to a blazing start and despite coming unstuck in the last round against Robert came out the clear winner on 4/5 walking off with the 1st prize of a bottle of wine.Thank you to Chris Dunn who as well as playing was the tournament controller.
