Montargis Twinning Visit
10th to 14th April 2014 (see Reports tab for Photo Diary)
As part of the annual twinning celebration between Crowborough and Montargis four intrepid families; Family Liu, Family Ahluwalia, Family Kendall, Family Hardrade-Grosz as well as myself and Gill travelled to Montargis.
After a day playing chess at all 17 Ponts de Montargis we were welcomed by the local chess club of Amilly and the Mayor of Montargis at the Town Hall. David and Amardip played an exhibition blitz match of 3 minutes + 5 secs against their two junior representatives and took a 6-2 lead into the afternoon playing session.
After a lunch on the lawn outside the Hotel de Ville we reconvened in a pleasant playing venue.
Our team of David Liu, Amardip Ahluwalia, Matthew Liu, Maxwell Kendall, Catherine Liu, Max Hardrade-Grosz and Laurie Kendall faced a varying 7 players from Amilly Chess Club over 5 games of 15 minutes + 10 Secs.
After two rounds we paused for cake (Balvinder had presented a splendid Chess theme cake to the Mayor at the Town Hall) and drinks. Games restarted and it was hard work for our players having to play every game while the opponents brought in reinforcements.
It was a nice surprise at the end when we totted up the scores and the overall result for the day was a 22½-22½ draw.
All in all a fabulous and very enjoyable trip.
