Juniors quiz the 1st Team

As the players of Crowborough and Haywards Heath 1st teams arrived for their MidSussex league match they were dragged into Meeting Room 2 and asked a question by our juniors.

Here is a selection of questions and answers;
  • Do you have a secret weapon when playing chess ?
  • Yes a cup of tea
  • Do you win more games as black or as white ? 
  • Black
  • What's the hippopotamus opening ?
  • General consensus on this one was that nobody really knew however one Haywards Heath player did try a hippo mime while throwing the pieces around the demo board !
  • Where's the most exciting place you have ever played chess ?
  • A village in Indonesia
  • What is the best reply for black against 1.d4 ?
  • The Dutch Defence 1.... f5
  • What is the best checkmate you have ever played ?
  • A 7 move checkmate in the club championship
  • Would you recommend playing the Polish Opening ?
  • No [in fact a resounding no was echoed from all the players in the room]
  • Do you prefer playing black or white ?
  • Yes
We do hope we didn't put our 1st team off with these questions as they very narrowly lost their first match of the season and consequently their top of the league position is under threat.
