Gladiators

Monday 30th March 2020

Make this a date for your diary.

You may have enjoyed the film "Gladiator"...................but this will be better!

The 2nd Knock Out Blitz ("KOB2") competition is continuing online on Lichess.org.

The competition has now progressed to the four quarter final games and these are scheduled successively every 30 minutes starting with the first at 7 pm on Monday 30 March. Each player has 10 minutes plus a 5 second increment per move so each game should complete within about 28 minutes. So you can settle in with a bag of popcorn and watch all four contests.

To watch a game simply login to Lichess, locate the search option at the top right hand corner of the screen, type in one of the usernames playing in the game you want to watch, and then select the black-coloured TV symbol when the next screen appears on that player.

The 8 surviving contenders (the "gladiators" of the Crowborough Chess Club), and the times of their games, are as follows:

QF4 to start at 7 PM

Thomas Martin (username = TM9261) plays Daniel Longley (username = Dan_Longley)

This game has the marketing strap line "The Battle of the Young Lions".

QF3 to start at 7:30 PM

Raina Jithendra (username = jithu_99) plays Nick Hope (username = blknight)

Marketing strap line "Faith against Hope".

QF1 to start at 8 PM

Palitha Konara (username = palkon2020) plays Henry Shaw (username = The_Pawn_Storm)

Marketing strap line "The reigning King meets his one day successor".

QF2 to start at 8:30 PM

Michael Redman (username = Solebanana) plays David Fryer (username = CrowChess)

Marketing strap line "The battle of the Old Lions".

Should be some thrilling games.

For your information the winners of QF1 & QF2 will play in one semi-final and the winners of QF3 & QF4 will play in the other semi-final.

Both semi-finals are scheduled to be played on the Monday evening 6th April.

The final is scheduled for Monday evening 20th April.

Regards and stay healthy, Jonathan Grisenthwaite
