UK Chess Challenge GigaFinal
16th and 17th July 2016 Please email me with your pictures, games and results. I will update this news item as I receive information so do check back regularly.
Well done to everyone who played as qualifying for this South of England GigaFinal is a great achievement putting you all in the top 1000 out of 50,000 entrants.
Gary Kendall reports ;
I thought that you might appreciate a couple of shots of the
boys in their Crowborough tops for the web site. Before (limbering up at Cobham
services) and after (ready for the final round).
The boys also wrote down all of their games and have
transcribed some on the computer.
Overall Max got three points and Laurie two. We also saw
Liam, Thomas and Elliot there on Saturday.
Although Laurie was not at the club on Friday as the Kendall's were preparing to travel to Reading for the GigaFinal he must have been there in spirit.

Laurie as White in Round 2 of the Under 8 boys demonstrated exactly how to checkmate a cornered king with only minor pieces which was one of the subjects of Friday's training.
From the position on the left the game continued.

Not to be outdone Maxwell in round 1 of the under 10 boys came up with a nice little combination proving two pieces are better than one.
