A REMINDER

We will be running our club tournament again tonight Friday 27th March.

If you want to chat then link to Discord is https://discord.gg/yWJC2A4

LiChess are struggling a little bit with the volume of users so bear with them if pairings are a bit slower tonight or you cannot see friends listed.

More the merrier so guests are welcome and I am going to email our old club members to see if they want to join in. Just let me know your username by email.

So you may see a few new names if not faces tonight.

Adults please join in at 7:30pm – I know it’s a little unfair but I am keeping junior and adult scores separately .

I have created a MSCL tournament to start on Wednesday 1st April at 7:00pm for everyone so an even playing field on that one.

REMEMBER

I am keeping a record of Usernames and real names so I will challenge any names I do not recognise entering our tournament so do let me know if you change your name.

Using your real name is not advisable for a variety of reasons not least that future over the board opponents will be able to look at your games and see what openings you play.

Especially important for the younger players is to turn on Kid Mode especially when not playing in the Crowborough Tournament as this disables chat.

GAMES

One good thing about playing OnLine is that your games are recorded and you can easily go back and analyse and marvel at your good moves (I wish) or learn from your mistakes. No criticism of anybody is intended when I analyse games. Just take a look at my games on LiChess and that awful statistic of number of blunders made!

Here is one position that I spotted in a Club KO Blitz played last week.

It is a King and Pawn pattern I have not seen before.

The point to note is that the white king cannot take the black pawn on f5 due to g3 (or e3) and black promotes first. So the black king can simply deal with the white pawn on b6 and then return to the fray and win easily.
