Our last match of 2017 ended in disappointment despite the best efforts of our captain Chris Dunn. Chris completely outplayed his opponent despite giving away 56 graiding points.Unfortunately I played a dreadful game against Morgan and got checkmated in 28 moves. Friday 1st Deceember 2017 Tonight's club meeting is the last before Xmas due to the annual Pantomime so make sure you come along for some fun chess in the junior club 6:30-7:30pm as well the prizegiving for the Autumn Junior Tournament.Senior club meets as usual between 7:30-10:00pm for the next round of the Club Championship Rapid Play all welcome.Bring some party food and drinks along and wish everyone a good Xmas break we return on Friday 12th January 2018 when we have a home 1st Team match against Hastings and for the juniors it will be the start of the 2018 UK Chess Challenge.Team NewsThis week saw our junior team in action again this time playing away at Horsham and winning 3-1. Autumn Lightning17 players including 7 juniors competed in the annual lightning tournament over 5 rounds.There was a three way tie for 1st place between ; Trevor Norton, Jonathan Tuck and Michael Redman each scoring 4 points with Trevor winning on tie break.The strength of the competition can be seen with 4th= shared between 1st team regulars Robert Elliston and Jon Lawrance on 3½ points while the top junior prize went to Thomas Martin with 3 points from 5 games.Junior ClubThree club nights are left before Christmas and we will be making this Friday 17th November the last round of the Autumn Term competition. 04.10.2017 - To all Crowborough Junior Chess Club Members

As from this Friday there is, in addition to the usual junior chess club running from 6:30-7:30pm the opportunity for the older/stronger players to stay on after 7:30pm. Chris Dunn will be organising competitive ECF Graded games at the time control of 25 minutes + 5 second increments. The games will last therefore a maximum of one hour but may finish sooner. This is an opportunity to gain experience of longer play against other members including adult players (you may even get a chance to beat me) and to obtain or extend your English Chess Federation Rating. PS parents can also play in these games if they dare ! So at 7:30pm we will close the connecting partition between meeting rooms 2 & 3 and Chris Dunn will announce the games to be played that evening. It is imperative that parents email Chris by Thursday if they want to play in these later games that will take place between 7:30pm – 9:00pm.
