The fixtures have been published and we start the season with a Cup match at Home vs last season's champions Woodpushers 2.The 1st team have 10 matches this season compared to 7 last year comprising of 5 players per team so plenty of opportunities for all our adult members to represent the club. Let Chris Dunn know of your availablity.The Rapid team of 4 players per team is aimed at our junior and family members. They have 5 matches this season with 3 at home. The new team to the league is Collyer College in Horsham and we play them in an away match on Thursday 15th November.Fixtures 2018-19

We will still accept cash or a cheque of course but direct
payment is easier for us as HSBC have now closed the Crowborough branch.
The AGM took place on Friday 21st September 2018.
It was noted that although we made a small surplus last year
with an end of season bank balance of £600 there are several factors that will
impinge on next year’s finances.
· Last year the 2017 Crowborough Congress had a
bumper entry of 48 while this year it was 36. The congress was still profitable
but with a lower income by £200.
· You may have noticed that we now have a cage in
the basement storeroom which means we do not have to lug sets, boards ...

Dagne Ciuksyte won in style winning her first 5 games
before drawing with former champion and tournament regular Rasa
Norinkeviciute in the final round. Dagne's next tournament will be the Chess Olympiad playing for the England women's team.Sussex
players Chaski Patrick and Morgan Blake came in second with a fine
result of 5 wins and just a single loss each and Rasa came 4th with 4½
points.Peter Kemp won the Albany Cup for the best result by a Crowborough Chess Club player with a score of 4/6. Friday 7th September 2018
when we hope to welcome back all the old faces and some new
Same format as last season with the junior club starting at
6:30pm for one hour including training and one organised junior championship
At 7:30pm the older juniors can join in with the adults
playing in the club rapidplay championship.
These matches will last approximately one hour finishing by
9pm with the option to play a second game. The club closes at 10pm.
We are entering one adult and one junior team in the Mid
Sussex Chess League and one mixed team in the MSCL Knock Out Cup. Once the home
and away fixtures are announced we will be asking club members to let us know
their availability for selection.
Unfortunately our wonderful Wealden Council have sold the
Mead House car park so if there are no spaces immediately outside the Community
Centre please park just past the centre on the left where there is a limited amount
of parking or across the road in the cresce...

Most improved Crowborough player – Chris Dunn +7 points
though coincidentally he lost 7 points on his rapid grade.
Henry Shaw gained a standard play grade for the first time with a very respectable 104.
On the ECF website you can look up National top 100 lists for
various age groups etc.
Robert Elliston appears as No.4 in his age group 80+
Elena Currah is No.10 in the under 11 girls list.
Most improved Crowborough Player was Jack Lai with an impressive increase of
24 while a special mention should go to Mark Currah and Oliver Stockham who both
achieved a rating incease of 15.
Four players achieved rapid grades for the first time Nick Hope 100, Keith Martin 66, Benjamin
Pearce 63 and Isabella Hull 25.
Lucy Lai appears at No.41 in the under 10 girls list while

9th - 10th June 2018 Myself, Henry and Suriya crossed the border into Kent to play in probably the best run weekend tournament outside of Sussex.

The venue is a fine Edwardian building owned by the Tunbridge Wells Bridge Club with a spacious and airy playing area and a comfy sofa to rest on between rounds.Even so I made myself known to the controllers making an objection on behalf of Suriya for the fact that he was given black in all three of his Saturday games. After receiving the explanation that 3 of the 4 players on 0/2 had played two blacks my objection was overruled and I was threatened with being given two blacks myself on Sunday. I did think for a moment on Sunday morning that their threat to me was real when I was given my 3rd black in round 4.As it turned out we all had a reasonable result with myself gaining 2½/5 in the Open Section with Henry and Suriya scoring 2½ and 2 respect...

Reminder for all the Juniors that the Junior Summer Chess
Club continues this Friday 8th June until Friday 20th July 2018.
These extra 7 Fridays will follow the normal format for
6:30pm-7:30pm but we do have Meeting Room 3 booked until 8:30pm so for those
interested and wish to stay on for the extra hour we will be arranging extra
training or games.
These Summer meetings are additional to the club membership
so to pay for the meeting room we are asking for £15 for one child or £25 for

With the end of the regular season the Senior Rapidplay
Tournament has come to a finish with a resounding and worthy victory for
Michael Redman who is the new Crowborough Club Champion. Jonathan Grisenthwaite
came second and Chris Dunn was third.
The Trophy for the top junior was won by Elliott Hookway who
came 4th overall.
