|05.04.2020 - New Plans for Online Chess
Following on from the success of the Online Tournament every Friday we are making plans for chess classes specific to individual needs.To this end we are rapidly learning how to use Zoom so do expect invites to online classes by email. These will be free for our club members with maybe a small donation requested from non club members.We are planning;
Beginner classes aimed at our younger members
Strategy classes for our intermediate members
Game analysis for all members
Opening Clinics for our stronger juniors and adults
Master Classes with invited GM to talk and answer question
We may also try simultaneous displays on LiChess.All suggestions welcome as we try to give value for being members of the Club in these rather strange times...

control is 10 minutes + 5 secs a move but you can choose to go Beserk before
playing your first move in a game. Half the time no increment but an extra
point if you win.
note if you win two games on the trot you are on fire and scores double in your
ends at 10pm. If you are still playing then that game continues and is rated
but does not score in the tournament.

The 2nd Knock Out Blitz
("KOB2") competition is continuing online on Lichess.org.
The competition has now progressed
to the four quarter final games and these are scheduled successively every 30
minutes starting with the first at 7 pm on Monday 30 March. Each player has 10
minutes plus a 5 second increment per move so each game should complete within
about 28 minutes. So you can settle in with a bag of popcorn and watch all four

Many of you are already members of LICHESS but those who are
not should join beforehand at Lichess.org its simple and free you just need an active email address.
Once you are a member follow this link and join the fun

the usual 10 minutes + 5 seconds a move. You can play as many games as you wish
with the final result announced at 9:30pm.
BESERK mode (less time but extra points) is allowed for the

well as the option to see my screen download the DISCORDAPP which is a free voice and text chat app.

|16.03.2020 - DON'T WORRY
We can all still play chess on Fridays.
If you have not already done so Register an account with LICHESS.ORG simple to do you just need an email address.
Best to choose an anonymous name for example I am CROWCHESS
and when not playing in our tournaments go to settings and turn on KID MODE to
stop any inappropriate chat.
Every Friday we will be running an Online Tournament between
6:30pm – 9:30pm but could I ask adults to not start playing until 7:30pm.
A Link will appear on our website simply click and Join the
tournament – password is CCC – you can join and pause and join again for as
long as you wish until tournament ends. Pairings are automatic.
Time Control will be 10 minutes + 5 seconds a move but we
will allow you to go BERSERK which means your time control will change to 5
minutes with no increment and in return you will score DOUBLE points.

|13.03.2020 - CoronaVirus Update
We will be opening the Chess Club up as usual tonight Friday 13th March though
I will be cleaning all the boards, sets and clocks before and after the club.
However it will be perfectly understandable if you do not
wish to come due to concerns over the virus. Also if you or your children have
any symptoms or are feeling in anyway unwell please do not attend.
To this end we have set up on LICHESS an online Tournament
starting at 6:30pm. Password = CCC
This will be a trial run and something if successful that we
can run each week so that everyone can still play even if not attending in

which is completely free. Do not use your real name as your username. I am
CROWCHESS for example.

|26.02.2020 - Lewes vs Crowborough Rapidplay
Our youth team achieved a hard fought draw away at Lewes last nght.It took 1½ hours for the first game to finish as all four games went into endgames.Thomas after achieving a half norm and 160+ performance at the weekend went into his game all guns blazing but misplaced a piece in the middlegame and despite multiple pins could not retain his material equality. However the endgame was unclear but efficiently executed by Austin.Raina shortly after equalised the score, nicely converting a strong pin from her bishop into the full point.The other two games were finely poised with non of the players giving any quarter.Ben was next to finish when he neutralised his opponent's edge by liquidating down leaving Henry with an impotent force of King, wrong coloured Bishop and Rook Pawn.So with the score at 1½-1½ all eyes turned to board 3 where Daniel and Jacob were fighting out a Rook, Knight and 3 pawns each endgame.
